Garden dry stone planters and steps – Edinburgh

I spent two weeks in August building a couple of dry stone planters and steps in this garden in Edinburgh.

I had worked for the same clients back in 2014, building a high L-shared dry stone wall in their back garden.  That project had involved a water feature, a small moongate-type piece of work and lots recesses and shelves for pots and candles.

It’s always good to get a call from a former client, asking you back to do more.

This time I was asked to install dry stone planters and steps around a circular patio in the lower section of the garden.  There was another free-standing raised bed to be added and two sets of chunky steps. The steps were built to be informal and replaced the existing squareness of the brick and slabs used in the original build. Using big stone pieces, the stairs are now more fluid and organic.

All of the stonework was built with Alston stone from Cumbria to match the earlier work. The stone was supplied by Border Aggregates of Kelso.
