Project Description
Dumfries – low walls, paving and steps
The initial contact for this job had several requirements: 60-plus metres of low stone walls, a grand staircase up to the summer-house and some paving.
The project required working with mortared stone rather than the more usual dry stone wall. I used lime mortar for pointing under the cap stones. As a result it gave the stonework a really slick look.
As the job progressed the client asked me to lay some paving and ro put in two paths of big red sandstone slabs. I quite like jobs that evolve over time.
The completed project included 60m of low stone walls and paving; lovely flat cap stones with lime mortar; the curved red sandstone path set in the ground; a set of steps and a new Indian sandstone paved area. The final result looked amazing.
The overall design was for curves – lots of them! I think we achieved that!
The red bowscar sand stone was supplied by Cumbria Quarrying Services.
And some great feedback from the client:
“Jason was professional from the outset.
At all stages of his work he explained and signposted me as to what he was doing and continually checked that I was happy with his work. He also checked I was comfortable with his ideas, involved me in any changes needed, took on board my own suggestions, amendments, and additional work without a fuss. When I say his work, I should say his art as his talent has transformed my garden and houses landscape beyond my expectations and wowed everyone who has seen my garden since.
I would commend his work and 100% recommend him.”
